Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their work in the campaign.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
