Strong cold-season gusts caused walls to collapse upon flimsy shelters sheltering people displaced by war in Gaza, killing no fewer than four individuals. These deaths underscores the perilous living conditions that persist after over 24 months of devastating airstrikes and severe lack of humanitarian assistance.

Truce Provides Little Relief from Severe Weather

Although a truce has been active since last fall, humanitarian organizations report that Palestinians do not have the sufficient housing required to survive frequent winter storms.

Medical staff at Gaza City's largest medical facility, which took in the victims, said on this week that the dead include two women, a girl, and a man.

In a separate incident, the local health authority stated on the same day that a 12-month-old infant succumbed of extreme cold overnight.

"The world has enabled us to experience death in every possible way," said a family member following the burial. "While it is correct the shelling may have paused for now, but we have seen every conceivable cause of death in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Family Crushed in Shelter Collapse

As per the medical center, 3 people of a single family — elderly Mohamed Hamouda, his 15-year-old relative, and his son's wife — were killed when an 26-foot high wall collapsed on top of their dwelling in a area near the sea of Gaza City. No fewer than five others were injured in the event.

Family members on that day started clearing the debris that had buried their family and reconstructing the temporary homes for those who remained.

Aid Efforts and Continuing Crisis

United Nations agencies and its aid organization allies were distributing shelter kits, plastic sheeting, blankets and clothes as well as nutrition and hygiene supplies throughout Gaza, stated the relevant UN coordination body.

Another Winter of Struggle

Gaza’s population of over 2 million people has been struggling to fend off the cold weather and storms at bay while facing shortages of assistance and a absence of more substantial transitional shelter, which is badly required during the winter months.
