Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
