The debut footage showcases Matt Damon portraying Odysseus. We also see Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. Furthermore, the preview provides a brief, shadowy glimpse at Polyphemus the Cyclops, from whom sheep are Odysseus and his crew steal on their treacherous voyage.
Adapted from a cornerstone in classic storytelling, The Odyssey chronicles the epic journey undertaken by the famed ruler. After his triumph at Troy, which is depicted in Homer's Iliad, the king faces an extended and hazardous return to his homeland.
Legendary Obstacles with an All-Star Cast
Along his path, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and mythical beings. This roster features the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Despite these trials, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to get back to Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.
This film's ensemble is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Story Repeatedly Told
Homer's epic has inspired many reinterpretations throughout history. These range from modern retellings to a 1999 ballet. It has even been adapted into a musical called Epic: The Musical, presented as a nine-album collection.
