This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
