Trump Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Personnel to White House
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Call
The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to support law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader the governor said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
