The United Kingdom is set to progress with using the total value of seized Russian holdings to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, France, and Germany stated that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the decision would be executed in strong partnership with the United States.

British restrictions have blocked over £25bn of Russia's funds since the Russian government launched its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, until now, funds sent to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had only been sourced from gains and dividends earned on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their goal to advance efforts toward employing the full value of the seized Russian sovereign holdings to end the war.

He stated that more restrictions in the coming days and weeks would heighten the tension on the Russian government.

This announcement comes after European Union officials gathered in the Danish capital last week to consider utilizing immobilized Russian funds for a €140bn credit to Ukraine.

In the previous month, American leader Donald Trump called on international partners to confiscate or employ immobilized Russian funds, based on reports.

The total of frozen Russian funds in the EU is calculated to be approximately €211bn.
